Getting Back Into the Swing of Things....Reading. Writing.

So some of you who are fiction writers, find it tough to churn out that story you've been thinking about for the last few months. I was personally supposed to take some time off this month to scribble some notes on my "novel" this summer before classes had begun again. Truthfully, I'll be honest as chubbily possibly, I have barely written a word.

Most of the work has been moving through my mind for a long time but scarcely has made it onto the page. I feel like my characters end up hanging around in my mind for so long that they just stay there and mold over, becoming decrepit and old once upon a times before they've even lived.

SO I felt like I needed to sit my ass down and start reading since I can't write. My favorite book to dip into for inspiration from time to time is this little gem, On Writing, by Stephen King. I love his tone and the funny things he usually has to say. Plus, he was an old writing professor (not sure if he still teaches) and he's got some great pieces of inspiration from time to time.

If you're a writer and looking for some inspiration, pick this baby up. It's interesting if nothing else and it will get you reading, which you need to be doing if you want to be any sort of writer.

My Summer Reading List

I wanted to share some of the books on my shelf I'm reading right now. I am famous for reading six or more books at a time. I just feel like each book can fill a mood. When I am feeling brave and ready to receive big words, I read Nabokov and Fellowes. When I'm feeling like being knocked on my ass, I read some Jackson. I can't tell you how excited I am to read the Shirley Jackson unreleased works. I haven't yet begun this one but it's next on my list. I cannot wait to dig in. Let me know if you've read these, what you think and what you recommend. Email me your suggestions to, comment below or reach out on Twitter @Ellohoneybee.
