Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

The latest young adult novel turned cinematic adventure has come your way: Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare (I wonder where the character of Clary comes from). I love nothing more than to have young adult novels turned into films for a couple of reasons. One, kids tend to read more when they're promised a visual representation of their imagination. Two, it just makes writing such an awesome form of artistic expression.

Sadly, I haven't read this series but I have seen the books plastered all over bookshelves everywhere I go and now I know why. Normally, when I have seen the movie before I have had a chance to read the book I won't go through the trouble--especially if the movie isn't all that wonderful. But this film was. It's so funny, when the movie started I felt as if I had seen it before somewhere else. Funny thing is that I had seen the trailer months and months ago and somehow it stuck with me.

When my friend Laura asked me to attend opening night with her on Wednesday I wasn't sure if I would like it, but I was sucking into it. The movie of course would have been better if it weren't for the fan base of thirteen year olds screaming at every mention of the main character Jaces' name.

If you haven't read the books then you should go pick up the first book and get started. The story line: Shadow Hunters that save the world from demons for as long as the Earth has been. The main character Clary doesn't know she's different from anyone else until she starts drawing a mysterious symbol. The symbol shows up from the beginning of the film in her coffee cup, on doodles she makes while she's on the phone and while she's sleeping the symbol is scribbled all over sheets of paper hanging from the walls of her bedroom. The symbol of course means something significant and her mother is afraid she's going to find out.

I would feel terrible if I told you too much about Mortal Instruments so, watch the trailer and see it for yourself.

You can also purchase the first book here City of Bones Mortal Instruments.

Have you seen it already? What did you think of it? If you're interested, there may be a giveaway of the first book coming your way.... Just say the word.
